Anaïs in Love

Anaïs in Love ★★★½

On paper, indistinguishable from countless other queer love stories, clichés and all. But execution, execution, execution, y’know? First, Demoustier is radiant and undeniable as the irritatingly charming title character—you want to hate how ridiculously Parisienne she is except for how much you love how lovable she is. Bourgeois-Tacquet directs with real taste, too, pulling you along into this character’s airheaded world with such uncommon, gentle confidence. The closing scene is pitch perfect, right down to the judicious use of slow motion.
