I’m a sucker for the grift as a genre, but this attempt at modernizing the big con is flat as a pancake and overexplained. By the time the final twists are revealed, we’re so far from the brilliant highs of “The Sting” that this seems like what the late 90s and early 00s were in so many ways: a cable TV derivative of things done better two or three decades before.
