It’s probably not reasonable to expect a full duplication of the well-honed brilliance of “Knives Out,” but this comes reasonably close. It fulfills the minimum requirement of any worthwhile sequel by giving us substantive additional shadings to the principal character—Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc—without undermining the iconic view we developed in the character’s debut. And it also delivers all the goods in terms of twists, laughs and social commentary. Still, there’s the faintest hint of formula here, a vague sense of repetition at edges of the reinvention. The third time out will be a bear for sure, though I can’t wait for it.
