Holiday ★★★★★

The language in this romantic comedy—among the 1% of the best romantic comedies ever committed to film—is so rich, so sumptuous, and yet it still somehow feels lighter than air, remarkably unselfconscious. But if you pay attention, you’ll appreciate its texture, how it brings alive a fantasyland of wealth in a struggle with living, how it endows Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn with an incandescence that we’ll probably never see again on screen. A whopper of a film.
