Joint Security Area ★★★★

Starts off VERY creaky, with some bad English dubbing, some worse English language performers, and Lee Yeong-ae as a very poorly written audience surrogate. But before too long it turns into a thoughtful, even heartbreaking meditation on the ongoing pain of the Korean peninsula's decades' old civil rupture. Park is also mindful to litter the production with at least a dozen examples of his relentless visual invention, which never hurts.
