Khoi Vinh’s review published on Letterboxd:
I suspect I would’ve liked this better had I been able to see it in theaters. But like a lot of historical dramas, this one struggles with scope; sometimes it zooms too far out, sometimes it zooms too far in and on the wrong subjects. There’s a personal drama here that is made riveting by the electric performance of the two leads, but there’s also a social history that, while worthwhile to tell, feels more like a recounting than a narrative.
