Khoi Vinh’s review published on Letterboxd:
Oof. This is a problematic film. Made entirely from a touristic, white northerner view of the South, it severely misjudged the racial dynamics of the milieu and has a bit too much fun lampooning the region’s viciousness. Nevertheless, it’s exceedingly well made and entertaining in spite of itself. The performances are note perfect throughout; I’ve rarely seen George Clooney act with his eyes as well as he does here, and Holly Hunter is a delight when she shows up.
