Khoi Vinh’s review published on Letterboxd:
Somehow I never saw this as a kid. I’d like to think that if I had, even then I would’ve recognized how strikingly beautiful it is. The organic, hand-drawn character animation is delightful of course, but the background designs are off-the-charts gorgeous. The modernistic, Ben Shahn-like line quality is a feast for the eyes, and the inspired use of color is practically genius-like. I don’t often mourn the losses that computer animation have visited on its hand-drawn predecessor but this movie really made me regret living in a world where “The Secret Life of Pets” is the norm.
