State of Siege

State of Siege ★★★½

Another installment in Yves Montand’s remarkable run of lefty political parables. This one is an indictment of western meddling in Latin America, with Montand bringing his reliably likable father figure energy to an insidious role. Costas-Gravas directs with his customary verve, though with fewer pyrotechnics than “Z.” Still, it’s gripping work; I could watch a dozen more just like it.
