Khoi Vinh’s review published on Letterboxd:
At the time it was probably an incisive look at how gambling addicts think. Today it’s perhaps more interesting as a study in absurd machismo ideals. Caan’s character is just ridiculous: a university professor with a street-wise savvy, hailing from a wealthy family, who dates a model-like girlfriend who’s incredibly tolerant of his poor treatment, oh and he’s a reckless gambler too. Really this says more about the writer than the subject matter.
