Khoi Vinh’s review published on Letterboxd:
Charlize Theron is giving us everything. There’s not a role she’s taken on recently where she’s not the hardest working actor on screen. And the results have, occasionally, been spectacular; “Tully,” “Atomic Blonde” and obviously “Mad Max: Fury Road” have all been worthy of her tremendous efforts. But “The Old Guard” is not. You can see the bones of Greg Rucka’s original source material and the many genuinely interesting questions they raise. But the direction of this movie, which slathers solemnity and humorlessness on everything, plus the terrible needle drops, are a huge disappointment. Boring.
