Khoi Vinh’s review published on Letterboxd:
Hard to decide whether this movie was trying to break down noir conventions or update them. It clearly knows its roots but it also has a more expansive idea of the world than its antecedents. The first half is a crackerjack execution of genre conventions, and then it wanders a bit in the latter half, but it kept me guessing. Lange and Nicholson are also excellent; their wary passion for each other is nuanced and authentic.
