Khoi Vinh’s review published on Letterboxd:
A grubby, gritty noir, seemingly sleight at just 72 minutes, but a feast of complicated shadows, bloody perspiration and animalistic faces. From the start there’s virtually no mystery as to where the plot is headed, but director Robert Wise (who would go on to make “West Side Story,” “The Sound of Music” and “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”; go figure) wrests real drama and pathos from the clichés. The fight scenes are brutal and arresting, and star Robert Ryan is shockingly committed throughout.
