Watched some kind of bastardized special edition littered with comic book-style scene transitions—horrible. Perhaps as a result this B-grade epic seemed less endearing than ever—and I’ve counted myself a fan of this movie for a long time. It just seemed dumber to me than it ever had before; the ridiculous matching gang uniforms, the implausible fight sequences, the over-the-top macho posturing, and the silly showdown at the end. Classics should not be messed with.
