Young Sherlock Holmes

Young Sherlock Holmes ★½

I thought that I remembered this at least somewhat fondly but as I rewatched it came back to me that even as a kid, I understood that it wasn’t very good. The conceit of youthful versions of Holmes and Watson isn’t a bad one at all, but not a lot of particularly interesting things are done with it in this by-the-numbers 80s treatment. The central mystery is thuddingly obvious and Holmes never demonstrates any particularly insightful detective skills. Levinson seems less interested in the cerebral aspect of the character and more intent on making this an action-adventure romp, failing in both respects.
