The plot, ostensibly centered on the almost literal manic dream pixie girl, sidelines her for most of the third act. The title’s stated intention to explore the Paris underground never comes to fruition. A transvestite performer is never seen in drag. Basically, the dream logic narrative continually frustrates audience expectations, mostly to brilliant effect.
