Whoops, guess I still find this pretty cool. Years later and the production designs, set pieces and pacing on this thing still hold up. The things that don’t you could practically flick away with a feather duster, in comparison, anyway. It’s not like Blade Runner where acting/drama is integral to the experience. Little Jake Lloyd can deliver lines poorly and Natalie Portman can bewilder with accents all they want.
Definitely not as complex as it thinks it is, especially in regards to (the extent to which it is) exploring Big Ideas, but wow is it some nicely executed craziness. Spader’s B-scifi cum existential PTSD line delivery had a nice effect on me. Same goes for Hunter’s costumes. Kinda like sex, lies, and videotape meets The Ring, except funnier and never boring.
