Robert Eggers isn’t just hitting home runs with each of his films, he’s hitting freakin’ grand slams. And this just may be my personal favorite film of his that he’s made to date. When you give him (an estimated) 70-90 million dollars to play around with, he takes it and utilizes it to its full potential, putting each and every penny on that screen to create a spectacle unlike anything you’ve seen from a medieval epic. The fight sequences are extremely intense and meticulously crafted, Jarin Blaschke’s 35mm cinematography is to die for, and the production design is so perfect that you genuinely buy into the time-period that the film takes place in.

I’m simply in awe of how this thing even exists in the first place. The respect I have for Regency, Focus Features, and Universal for giving the project the green-light is immeasurable. Unfortunately, it’ll probably bomb pretty badly at the box office because it hasn’t been marketed all that much. So I’m begging, if you’re reading this right now and are on the fence about whether or not to catch it in theaters, I implore you to. Please support blockbusters that promote an art-house mentality and an independent vision.
