This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I’m a ride-or-die Marvel fan, but goddamn, this movie was boring as hell. It took Jonathan Hickman’s terrific storylines from the comics and completely wasted what could have been an entire phase of movies. The only part I actually enjoyed was seeing Mr. Fantastic, and sure enough, they wasted that, too. What a fucking mess of a movie.

An absolute masterpiece, and my pinnacle “How the fuck did they make this” movie. A master class in sustained tension, with some absolutely insane locations to boot. I’m in awe of this film every time I watch it, and my view count is easily in the dozens. Just incredible.

Screenwriter Eric Red is an extremely fucked-up individual who killed two people when he plowed his car, possibly intentionally, into a crowded bar in Los Angeles, then seemingly did everything possible to avoid prosecution or financial liability (see this LA Weekly article from 2006). But it’s hard to deny that this is one terrific horror/thriller and one of the best road thrillers ever made. It’s worth watching, because it’s a hell of a watch, but it’s also…
