Will Feinstein’s review published on Letterboxd:
Three* big stars for how happy the Maels look in the opening number. Best Carax moment is when Driver and Cotillard are singing on the motorcycle.
I'm positive a more condensed version of this would play better. The challenging stretches didn't grab me or push me away; they just felt shapeless. Somewhere, there was a choice against making this more fun. I was hoping for the lively sort of Sparks songs, but still, "We Love Each Other So Much" has been stuck in my head for a few days, and the closing number is lovely.
Oh and Adam Driver is really good and pushing himself.
*I bumped this half a star a week later. I might stop doing stars. Annette doesn't need stars.
