Monika is the dominant force in the relationship. She was able to subdue Harry by the mere force of her sexuality. Monika's abused and impoverished background has natured her into social transgression, but not in a profound or creative way. She is transgressive because she is loose, steals, lies, and attempts murder or close to it. What can be, however, mistaken for transgression can be mere survival. A motif of borden circulates throughout the film. Both Monika and Harry exchange yawn after yawn. Even when they are exploring secluded islands together they seems so in love, yet so bored and tired.
A dynamic dual of two cripples: a child that has polio and her mute caretaker. Young Angela Christ perverts her disability into a source of terror and despotism as she emotionally abuses and blackmails those around her. Meanwhile, her caretaker Traunitz complies to Angela's manipulative behavior and demands, which in turn allows Traunitz to also dabble in that same power. Perhaps the worst film of 2012. A film based on marvel comic heroes should be action packed, suspenseful, and fun, not bloated with prolonged dialogues that are meant to showcase the actors rather than the heroes, especially when the acting is flat and every word that comes out of their mouths is forgettable. I would not force my worst enemy to watch the Avengers. I just feel bad for all the kids who got drunk for this film.
