Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ★★★★

He said "Welcome to the freakin' Guardians of the Galaxy." Only he didn't use freakin'.

Note: I had a splitting headache when I watched this last night, and was sort of just exhausted and shit.
Well, I'm glad I let Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sink in, because it's a hella good movie. James Gunn actually gives enough of a shit to make a character driven film, and it's really rewarding.
Guardians Vol. 2 succeeds because of its humanity and emotion, and not because of its action, which is mostly horrible.
It's a nice story of family and relationships, and Gunn has several arcs for each character. It's a very nice change of pace from the rest of these films, which are so concerned with how the next action set piece will occur.
It's a visually pleasant film, thanks to DP Henry Braham. The colors pop right off the screen.
The soundtrack is killer, even better than the first film.
Shit, this is honestly one of Marvel's best. It's just a really great, different kind of blockbuster. It knows it's dumb, especially in one scene that just takes the satire to the next level, but it uses it to its strength.
If Gunn can deliver a Vol. 3 that's this good, then I'll be there on opening night too.
Dehydration and Florida heat can be a real bitch
