Karl Janssen’s review published on Letterboxd:
This version of The Call of the Wild features a few iconic scenes from Jack London's novel, but mostly it's just Clark Gable playing a roguish adventurer who hunts for gold while romancing Loretta Young. It's a pretty run-of-the-mill love story with one or two compelling moments at best. The real star attraction, however, is Buck the Saint Bernard, who not only does an excellent job on everything he's been trained to do but also, like a canine Olivier, actually conveys emotion with his face! He steals every scene he's in. I would have liked this move better if, like the novel, there were a lot more Buck and little less Gable.
