The screenplay by John Hodge has this incredibly intoxicating eloquence to it, and despite being aimless addicts, most of the characters have strong personalities, making them stand out. It is supercharged with sulphurous humour and brutal recklessness: it charges at you like Ewan McGregor’s Renton sprinting from store detectives in the opening sequence.
Eternity For a Day (1998)
It consists of a a long, fluid escort which takes us through a space of time, to universal themes and broader topicalities, effortlessly fending off charges of hermetic aestheticism. Precisely controlled and confidently poetic. A rare and lasting pleasure!
An extraordinarily provoking film. The thematic skills are top notch and it features increasingly tightening levels of suspense of a downward spiral. Superbly written, casted & produced. The propulsive Uncut Gems, with ingenious camera techniques and laser focus on the perils of obsessive over each in high stakes, at times, quasi-legal subculture makes for an absorbing and electrifyingly relevant contemporary statement.
