Tokyo Tribe is something I had never seen before: a Japanese hip-hop musical about the gangs running a futuristic dystopian Tokyo being drawn into a war. Unfortunately while it's definitely a unique and special film, it has a shagginess to it that keeps me from rating it higher. In particular, while a number of the stars are dropping the science very well, many of the other actors' flow is not so fresh. It may have partially been an audio mix issue, but the "narrator" Show's raps lacked the emphasis I felt they should have had.
That said, this is definitely one to watch. It's bright and colorful, with intentionally broad characterization and acting that's campily entertaining.
