The visual juxtapositions in this film are INCREDIBLE. The living being surrounded by dead bodies. The ruins that are both large and empty, somber and beautiful. Ingrid Bergman being reduced to a minuscule scale in the presence of opulent, imposing, sculptures. The window of separation between Bergman in her car and the world that exists in the streets of Napoli just beyond her eye line.
