Judas And The Black Messiah is the realization of Director Shaka King’s blistering interpretation of real life events thats equally terrifying and impactful. I delighted spending more time in the power and purpose to which Fred Hampton lived, as opposed to his frustratingly tragic end. Not to say this film is with out its share of Trauma Porn and that may be a bit hyperbolic, but I implore those who are sensitive to brutalized black bodies on screen; this film is not for the faint of heart. 
It is filled with heart though. Daniel Kaluuya’s exceptional transformation supported by how his character was written, exemplifies the care and tact that was put forth and how it was evident Fred was absolutely FOR his people, FOR all people, and ADORED by them just as much. 
The ensemble all around was great. Dominque Fishback is stunning. Her measured grace and strength delivered through elegant subtly owns the screen. Lakeith’s narrative rollercoaster ride as Bill O’neal opposite another great Jesse Plemmons performance keeps the story flowing despite the suspension of disbelief that’s asked in regards to some mildly cartoonish depictions of characters around them and their decision making. Thankfully, the cinematography, the score, the costumes and every other technical element at work in this film additionally helps elevate the production to be one of the best of this very new year!
