The Green Knight

The Green Knight ★★★★

The Green Knight is fantasy made thoughtfully. The colours, whilst powerful and stylised, feel meticulous and controlled. The characters are dreamers and schemers, but their actions are driven by base emotions like lust and shame. The setting is a world of magic, except when it's science, and the music is simultaneously dynamic and also restrained.

I don't think there are many films quite like The Green Knight in the way it approaches both plot and theme, and they way it decides to show both of these things. Dev Patel is perenially brilliant, and the supporting cast of unparalleled character actors, from Barry Keoghan and Ralph Ineson to Kate Dickie and Erin Kellyman, are what make this knight's dishonourable journey for honour worth watching.
