Lamb is certainly eccentric, an inventive arthouse flick that doesn't fit comfortably into any genre. There is whimsy, love, humor, and terror. The visual effects are exceptional, with the leading lamb being just the right blend of adorable and grotesque. Noomi Rapace is superb in the very complex role of Maria, an Icelandic farmer's wife who takes the strange lamb Ava under her care and will do anything to prevent the disruption of her newly created reality. The film unfolds at a very deliberate pace, perhaps reminiscent of Bela Tarr, who serves as producer. For the adventurous cinephile, Lamb is captivating and unpredictable every step of the way. It is most assuredly not baaaaaad.
