Lynch is to cinema as Kafka is to literature. Both their styles are so distinct that one only has to add “-esque” after their last name to encompass an entire style. Both deal with living in worlds where one has minimal understanding of what is going on and suffers tremendously as a result of powers outside their control.
Lynch is THE cinema auteur of alienation. This is an extraordinary debut.

I tried so hard to write a review for this, my second viewing of La Notte, but of course I came up short. Nothing I could write could do it justice. Maybe one day when I am really old, because I think that’s the only way to fully understand this film. But even as young as I am I can tell you that it has everything.
Masterpiece.
