    X-Men: Apocalypse

    ★½

Just a boring jumbled mess of meaningless special effects and actors wincing as they employ their cgi mutant abilities. Also has the most offensive misuse of Oscar Isaac imaginable, playing the titular villain whose powers include walking and talking slowly.

  • Point Break

    Point Break

    ★★

Certainly vacuous and unnecessary, BUT the extreme sports footage and cgi-aided stunts are legitimately spectacular (at least until the final act jumps the shark).

ALSO- THE CREDITS ARE 15 MINUTES LONG

    City Lights

    ★★★★½

A lighthearted comedy about homelessness, suicide, disability, manic depression, substance abuse, handguns, bipolar disorder, drunk driving, robbery, rheumatic fever, and incarceration.

    Ladies and gentlemen.....the 1930s!

  • The Drop

    The Drop

    ★★★★

Where Killing Them Softly slogged through dull monologues and heavy handed allegory and where Out of the Furnace depended on convenient tragedies and unlikely relationships, The Drop is a lean, calmly paced, dive-y crime drama.

Tom Hardy sparkles as the stilted, soft-spoken bartender, but seriously why are folks still going into business with the Chechen mob?
