After having heard so much about it, I am really happy to say that I quite loved Carol. This tale of impossible love between two women in the '50s is told in a very mature way, emotional and powerful with a low-key approach that makes this stand out from other romance films. Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett are immense in this, so many subtle looks and reactions that are worth a thousand words. The period is recreated beautifully without feeling fake or artificial, also courtesy of stunning 16mm grainy cinematography that grounds this in reality. The cherry on top of this beautiful film is Carter Burwell's score, understated as always and delivering some of the bigger chills of the film (especially in the ending). Carol really is far better than I imagined, and it deserves all the love it has received in the past 5 years.
