For a film that is just a little over 90 minutes long, Possessor manages to have both too much and too little to say. It has an interesting sci-fi element that isn't explored that much, and world-building is very minimal almost to a fault. I wanted more, more about the characters, the world, the organization that possesses people's bodies to commit assassinations... There is a lot to take in and accept here, and while it works, it ultimately made for a film that I enjoyed but left me slightly unsatisfied. Cronenberg Jr has great visual flair and his dad's love for brutal violence and grotesque body horror, and there are elements of gender identity that were quite intriguing here. Cast's quite good (Riseborough continues to impress) except for some of the side characters played by lesser-known actors. A solid film that could have been so much more, but a step in the right direction for Brandon's career. Real curious to see what he does next!
