recently restored (i think), you can now watch ichigo & nigo kill shockers/kaijins in glorious high fidelity in their very own movie

insanely kinetic and energetic. interesting how this is prototypical of most modern kamen rider crossover films, including the good ol' quarry where multiple kaijin convene to get their asses kicked by whatever titular rider heading their show at the time.

this is one of the tamest kamen rider anniversary/cross-over films ever - there is no giant clusterfuck in its final 20 minutes or anything remotely even close to one other than the usual big monster killing finish, and i guess that would have helped if the interactions had been better written? it just feels rather small scale for what its premise promises, though its acceptable enough for what it tried to go for

this is what happiness is, and i'm glad to have seen this franchise to the very end (until the next time, anno!)

i really, really wanted to like this more... but fuck

replicating anything asian in terms of action is already tough work - and i am saddened to report that there is close to nothing in this film in terms of action that rivals even a shred of creativity you can find in a good old hong kong genre film from years before. that itself is fine if the narrative was interesting - but it is solely carried mostly by tony…
