Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman give two of the best performances I’ve ever seen. The movie as a whole didn’t completely work for me. Certain scenes are masterful but as a story from beginning to end I still don’t really know how I feel about the journey. But those performances…damn.
