Kurosawa’s review published on Letterboxd:
I finally watched this and am sorta disappointed, but mostly I’m just kind of not too bothered about it.
It didn’t do anything for me, it didnt bore me but it didn’t entertain me either.
It felt wholly predictable, not thrilling, not awful, not excellent, just run of the mill. Which is a big shame for all the casting and cinematography on display.
One really good scene momentarily gave me an emotional reaction - the tense intercutting when Hanks’ Sullivan realizes something is wrong with the letter he just handed over to the sleezy guy he thinks he’s collecting from.
Otherwise it was like eating a very bland freezer burnt vanilla ice cream after you expected (insert your favourite flavour here).
