• Midsommar

It's genuinly not often at all that things emotionally affect me, Mommy (2014 dir. Xavier Dolan) really made me think hard about my relationships with my family, Son of Saul (2015 dir. László Nemes) brought so much of the horrors of war to my mind and haunted me with the harsh realities of life and Midsommar is another to add to the list. Ari Aster's second feature to date is a modern horror masterpiece and I hold nothing back making…

    The Nice Guys

    Matt Bomer you beautiful freak

  • Outbreak

Annoyingly topical, not just because of the Coronavirus but because of the way America was portrayed back in 1995 and how close it is to how America has reacted now.

  • Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Portrait of a Lady on Fire

I'm back y'all from a not so nice illness that left me extremely fatigued and unable to watch much for two months without falling asleep after 10 minutes, quite annoying. (Not Covid-19 don't worry) but I decided to come back with a bang. Wanted Bacarau but just missed it off Mubi sadly so I went straight to this next since it was on there. What a completely correctly rated film! Number 12 on here which is a bit surprising but…

  • Thunderbirds

I vividly remember this film...very surprised there hasn't been an attempt at another live action remake since

  • Knives Out

    Knives Out

Lacked something special...not sure what it was but it needed something. I think the overdone whodunnit style might have been an aspect to my feelings (Fran especially) but other than a joyously well received film for me and my whole family.

  • Adaptation.

I haven't logged or written much this year...thinking of films like this and Synecdoche New York, going back on past works I have done here has really made me nostalgic for this site. I think of the possibility of self isolation in this mass hysteria and how I can use this for good. I am doing too much and not enough, going out at night and sleeping during the day, how can one call that an effective life?

Writing is a muse, music is a muse, film is my muse...

  • Brahms: The Boy II

    Brahms: The Boy II

The first one was bad enough, was a sequel really necessary, did anyone want this...I know I didn't, and I didn't even go by choice to see it

  • Molly's Game

    Molly's Game

This is a tough one, I generally don't have much of an issue with fast witty dialogue but I felt that it wasn't appropriate for a film like this. Molly's Game was an attempt at a more heartfelt and serious depiction of Molly's story but the speed of the dialogue and editing just isn't designed for a film like this. Ultimately though my main issue came from the poor acting from Chastain and the lack of a sense of camera…

  • Samsara

24:10 I almost got arrested there

    This film.

  • Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

    Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Park succeeds in his use of simplicity, making small stories big and thrilling.

And there's a reason Song Kang-Ho is my highest rated actor on here. His reaction to the big news in this is just outstanding
