After the Storm ★★★½

Though not particularly moving, intriguing, or even subtle or original given Kore-eda's work up to this point, After the Storm still feels right at home with the comforts of his previous films. Another broken family searching for a way forward, united briefly by familiar comforts. Kore-eda feels a little out of his element in the more adventurous portions involving the day-to-day of Ryota's private detective agency, but this accounts for only a modest slice of an otherwise solid addition to the director's collection.
