I can’t stop making X-men references after seeing this movie. I mean…a bald James McAvoy, the beast... Anyway.
Overall this is a lot better than The Visit, which I really hate, and actually a good Shyamalan movie, thanks largely to the story and characters that feel more textured than most Shyamalan’s previous attempts. Split is a character-driven psychological thriller that tries its best to avoid cheap jump scares and it does succeed somehow.
James McAvoy totally brings his A-game here. Time will treat his performance well, like how it did with Kathy Bates’s performance in Misery. Also, Anya Taylor-Joy is a force to be reckoned with. This girl is absolutely amazing in The Witch and she holds her own very well with McAvoy in this film.
Very solid film!
