"i want to go / to the end of the world / to see if the earth is round"
i've been going easy on some of my ratings lately. ordinarily, i would want to try to convince myself that i'm skilled at picking good movies to watch and not that i'm growing soft as a critic of cinema (*trumpets*), but for this film i'll gladly admit to a certain degree of softness. honestly, how could anyone in their right mind not instantly fall head over heels in love with this beachside dream of youth? endearing, idyllic, insightful, honest, hilarious, beautiful. i haven't felt such a real, pulsing, living understanding of love since Before Sunrise (the Linklater comparisons plenty others are making here are most certainly apt), even though it is a tad hard to describe exactly who that love is for or even who it's coming from. an inexplicable delight
