Old Dog ★★★

The malleable borders
Between cities and farms
Fathers and sons
Man and animal.
The sheep perseveres.

I can sort of see why Dan Sallitt called this the first major work of 2013, but I wasn't particularly feeling it. Obviously the narrative structure, sound design, and use of space are all quite striking, but consider me somewhat disinterested in the actual particulars of the drama, which I found often banal or unclear, and the reliance on some of the long takes to be an end in itself without really articulating anything for me. Certainly something worth noting, and would encourage those who can to see it at MoMA before it ends its run Monday. You might walk away differently.
