Scream VI 2023
I did this to myself. There is no one else to blame. I knew that this franchise's bloodlust had run dry by the time 'Scream 3' bumbled its way onto our screens, and I definitely knew that the franchise was on life support by 'Scream 4'. The 'Scream' movies were dead by the end of the 2010s, or at least they should have been. By the time 'Scream 5' blew its way out of Hollywood's shrivelled old ball sack for…

Scream 2022
I'm going for a rant.
Because I am so unbelievably tired of this creatively bankrupt era in which modern day hacks stand on the shoulders of older talent to retell stories that were already told so well, only to do so with less artistry and imagination. There is legitimately no motivation for doing another 'Scream' beyond financial incentive. There is no story begging to be told here; no creative vision that needed to be expressed. Basically, some accountants that moonlight…

The Thirteenth Floor 1999
I do enjoy these Twilight Zone-esque sci-fi thrillers from the 1990s despite their many drawbacks. 'The Thirteenth Floor' isn't really an overlooked cult classic nor is it worthy of such a designation, but it's just about good enough to warrant a look-in from those who missed it the first time around. I think it flew under the mainstream radar at the time due to a lack of marquee names in the cast and an underwhelming marketing campaign -- Columbia Pictures…

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny 2023
There is an argument to be made that if the original team of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas couldn't return to make the fifth and final Indiana Jones adventure then no one should. That said, their previous stab at bringing back the iconic character resulted in the major disappointment that was 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', which was as tired and creaky as Ford's performance. I know there has been a recent drive to re-evaluate that movie in light of…

Derek DelGaudio's In & of Itself 2020
I need to talk a little bit about the worrying mini-phenomenon of Hulu's 'In & Of Itself'. I watched it the other day, rated it three stars, and felt like it was a pretty impressive (if a little melodramatic) filmed performance of an Off-Broadway hit show that sees a magician emotionally connect with his audience in a way that other performers only dream of doing. I won't spoil how Derek DelGaudio goes about achieving this because the film works best if…
