Joel Lake’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Intern is about a retired business man/widower (Robert De Niro) taking an internship at a fashion website company to try and stay relevant. Playing alongside him is the young owner of said company (Anne Hathaway). The two play well off each other in a very unorthodox way and it's great to De Niro in a role where he's not just walking through every scene but having fun in the role.
The film doesn't really get to in depth with the premise, but the lighthearted fare is enough to keep audiences engaged and the supporting which includes Rene Russo as De Niro's love interest and Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Zack Pearlman are fun in their roles as De Niro work friends/modern day contemporaries. Another fun aspect of how men today are vastly different than days of old is brushed off quickly in one scene.
The film is fun and the two leads make the most of their time onscreen together. There's just more fluff than substance here, but a film that most audiences will find enjoyable at least one go around.
