    Kiss of the Dragon

    Perfectly serviceable early 2000’s Jet Li vehicle. The minimal wirework and CGI for the fight scenes is appreciated but the film could’ve used a couple more action beats. It also made me nostalgic for these action movies of this era all having hip-hop soundtracks.

    Tchéky Karyo steals the show as the hammy corrupt police detective.

    I could watch this every single day and not tire of it. The great wit and humor combined with genuine fairytale whimsy is perfectly concocted here.  Every character is played perfectly and while the basic story may be bland storybook stuff to some, it’s sort of the point.

    Holy shit. This was one of the greatest action movies I’ve seen, easily my favorite in the franchise outside of the first one. Each action setpiece builds up to that incredibly satisfying final one in such a perfect way. What a thrill-ride. Woof.

    A perfect action film. Not a single line of dialogue, shot or action wasted in this film. Mel Gibson is utterly iconic in his role as the laconic drifter of the wasteland and who can fucking forget the Lord Humungus.

    Fury Road really has overshadowed this film as of late and it deserves the praise it gets but it's George Miller's 1981 masterpiece that I keep find myself going back to. Mostly because I find that some restraint is necessary…
