Midsommar ★½

I get the love for this film. And upon another viewing I might change it. The cinematography for a horror movie is at times brilliant. You feel the anxiety that the lead character has the entire film and they portray the disorder very accurately.
However, there is shallow character development and the first act only loosely connects to the story. It was also predictable. Once you understood the premise, you knew what was going to happen. While I didn’t get the order correct or the final triumph, the reality of what they getting into was obvious — which isn’t what you want in a psychological thriller like this.
There were some extremely weird and unsettling aspects and I love unique ideas instead of the boilerplate ease that blockbusters like the MCU spit out, written from a computer. But, this is a lot to chew on. Maybe I just haven’t digested it all yet.
