A film that takes the whole ''slow-burner'' approach quite literally. The first half is tremendously slow and tedious. The two main characters and their unintelligible mumbling aren't that interesting, there isn't too much plot progression and the audiovisual style is a bit too understated to really create a captivating atmosphere. The docu-like bits with the grandma also felt a bit out of place, slowing the film down even more.

But there is a certain point where the ''slow'' finally ceases…

An unadulterated Russell movie from start to finish. About 20 minutes in, i already had no idea what i was actually watching anymore and from there on it just keeps getting progressively more grotesque. A story is pretty much non-existent, but that just seems to give Russell even more incentive to bombard the viewer with his trademark frenetic style, manic performances and overall insanity.

If you prefer subtlety in films, do yourself a favor and leave this one for what…

A pretty nihilistic and dark mess of a movie. Reminiscent of Clark and Korine, although i'd say this one is significantly more in your face. One of the best things about it is that the director doesn't seem to care about delivering justice to the characters or their deeds.
