Not included: assistant-director credits from the beginning of his career -- they don't seem relevant to his development as an auteur.
Tiered
1-5: Masterful
6-15: Really good, semi-classic, very typical of his work but not topmost. (#10 isn't highly enjoyable but it's absolutely central to the thematics that his auteur profile is built on.)
15-24: Plenty okay, quite watchable.
25-36: If you've got nothing better to do... (includes "trying to be post-60s 'modern' and it's not the best look for him.")
37-40 Really not that good...
41-44: Actively unpleasant to watch
45: Utter shit.
(Between #18 and #29 there are a few I don't remember well or at all; those rankings are very approximate.)
