Xanadu

Xanadu

Shoutout Cher (coolest person), we both watched this at the same time without knowing the other was seeing it 😭 Has me thinking sm about the inner worlds that films create and how uniquely powerful and personal they can be when artists are allowed to break away from the stuffy constraints of filmic norms and shape their creations into as many beautifully strange forms as they want. This is so free, so willing to go in as many unconventional directions as possible to share its overwhelmingly positive and optimistic energy with its audience; I rly can’t help but love it ❤️

(Also, since I am, in fact, Carol from letterboxd.com, I’d be remiss to not mention the serious Ōbayashi vibes going on here, not only in texture/feel, but in visuals as well. School in the Crosshairs and The Little Girl Who Conquered Time in particular come to mind, which is crazy in part bc this might be the only other film I’ve seen besides those that is this ambitious with early special effects!!)
