The purpose of my reviews is to document what I thought about the movies at the time.
When I thought that I figured out Abbas Kiarostami, he comes up with Close-Up which is completely different from everything that I ever saw. Kiarostami mixes reality with fiction in this docufiction as the trial was actually real and everything else is reenacted. A love letter to cinema and art, the only comparison that I could make while watching was Cinema Paradiso. The subtle political commentary using realism as a tool seems to be a constant in his work. It is beautiful and magical how in the end Sabzian got to be the actor that he always wanted.
The second watch of this movie had such an impact on me that I have been thinking and writing this review for about two weeks.
Stalker is a movie primarily about faith, religious or not, but not only that, it talks about desire, the human condition, and the meaning of life. Tarkovsky was a deeply religious Orthodox Christian, but Stalker, as a great art piece, raises questions to the viewer instead of sending a direct message. Looking at the historic…
I'm not the biggest fan of superhero movies or Batman, even though I really liked the Dark Knight, but this one was actually a good experience. It looks and sounds really good, I particularly enjoyed how they tried to make it really dark and play with that throughout the movie. The casting was great and all the characters were likable and interesting, which is sometimes difficult in these types of movies, I wanted to know more about them.
It's definitely an ambitious movie. Some of the ideas in this are really out of the box, especially for a comedy/action but... it seems very superficial to me...
The fight scenes, even if decent, extend themselves for about half the movie so at some point I was thinking if I was watching a superhero movie. The editing and special effects are really good and should be praised.
The character building was really weak, I didn't feel the relation between characters,…
There are not enough words to describe this movie. I don't think I'm worthy of writing a proper review after only watching this one time. I sincerely knew that this movie was gonna be perfect after just watching 2 minutes. I was with goosebumps the entire time. Directed as poet cinema, both the image and the script amaze me every second. I was honestly expecting that it wouldn't be as consistent but it really is. It's so good that it's hard to pinpoint favorite moments because everything is just so good. To be rewatched and studied.
