The Wolf of Wall Street meets Election. A great collision of different influences and at the same time very much its own kind of thing. It’s also a huge step forward from Finley’s directorial debut Thoroughbreds even though it beautifully continuous its theme of privilege by contrasting it with the many different forms of longing for prestige. On that note, Frank Tassone (Hugh Jackman) gives an amazing, little speech towards the end of the film that so perfectly sums up the beauty in the art of teaching; the thing that forms the basis of his character, his well-intentioned ideals, and his miscalculated actions. Honestly, I think this may be my favorite performance of his. Nuanced and impactful in equal measure. In short, a crime comedy for the ages!
